BE A CAMPGROUND HOST

Enjoy your summer camping as a volunteer campground host where you will provide a friendly welcome to fellow campers, assign them a suitable campsite, provide information on campground policy and make suggestions on the many sights and activities in the area. Only 36 of the campground's 78 sites are rented to weekenders and vacationers so the work load is very light except on Friday and Saturday. Working from your RV and the registration office, which is in view of your RV, you will work one day on, followed by two days off which is only two days per week except for an occasional week when you work three. The duty day begins at 4 PM and goes until 10 PM when the office closes and resumes at 10 AM in the morning when the office opens and continues to shift change at 4 PM. During that time the host will staff the office, take calls, register guests, show guests to their lots, assist guests by providing information that makes their stay at Whispering Surf an enjoyable experience and perform other light tasks around the campground. After the office closes on the duty day, the workcamper is on call and must remain in the park in case of an emergency. This happens maybe once a year. Cleaning restrooms is not part of the duties. If you wish to clean restrooms you will be paid extra for cleaning. Physical limitations are acceptable; this position does not require the applicant to perform heavy physical duties. To avoid one person being confined to the duty area couples are preferred. This schedule gives the host a lot of time for relaxing, seeing the many sights in the area and to enjoy their own summer outing.

In exchange for services the workcampers receive a free full hook-up campsite with a utility allowance. Lots at Whispering start at $1745.00 plus electric for the summer. Workcampers receive a $40.00 per day tax free living allowance, per diem, for the days on duty which is approximately $1300.00 for the season plus a $400.00 end of season bonus which is a cash payment of approximately $52.00 per day for the days workcampers are on duty. The bonus is paid after completing the season, which ends the Tuesday after Labor Day.
